Ecological Elegy: A World Unwound
The ancient oaks that stood so tall
Now levelled, turned to shopping malls.
Where thrushes sang from treetop halls
Just echoes now where forest falls.
The lazy brook once running cool
Now choked with chemicals from factory pools.
Fish floating up as toxins rule,
Waters warming once so cruel.
The seas where whales would breach and spout
Now islands of plastic humans thoughtlessly flout.
Currents clogged with trash throughout,
Tortoises ensnared, lives ground out.
More drilling we decreed as crude did drain,
Ignoring all the species suffering pain.
Voracious appetite with endless gain,
Spoiling Eden for commercial terrain.
What wastelands will remain for future ages?
When avarice leave scars through the ages?
We saw yet carried on for wealth we could compile,
Deaf to the wounds we left to fester and compile.
Now forests stand vacant, not a bird trills,
Darkened skies where eagles once flew.
Streams barren of minnows, no frog croaks or calls, the delicate balance of nature's intricate dance.
This bleak land our legacy from neglect grew.
We unleashed our hunger without any bars,
