Tamilnadu conferred the Kalaimamani title for her Dance. The also received the prestigious UNESCO
award for her dance performances.
Ms.Nirmala also is good writer and has written several short stories and articles for reputed weekly
magazines in Tamil.
As a story and Screen play writer she has written and produced several programmes for Doordarshan on its
regional and National Network.
She is the founder of Nirmala's academy of fine arts where she teaches Bharatanatyam in its purest form. The
academy is also involved in Film productions and programme for Television
ARUN CHADHA Graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. Have produced more
than 100 documentaries, short films and TV programmes on various social &
development issues. Many of these films have been shown in various National and
International Film Festivals and have won awards. My documentaries have also been
screened at the Global conference on Poliomyelitis in Zurich, Millennium summit on poverty
elimination in Washington and at the Summit on Climate Change in Paris. Won NATIONAL
AWARD, 'Rajat Kamal' for the best documentary; won twice, 'GOLDEN CONCH' award for
the best documentary films at the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) and 1st prize
for the Best Film at the International documentary Film festival, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Served as a
Jury Member for National & International Film Festivals - including the International Film Festival on
Human Rights, International Documentary Film Festival, “Jeevika' , 1 st International Film Festival on
Persons with Disabilities organized by the Govt. of India , Bengaluru International Film Festival and
National Film Awards on Science and Technology , Kolkata. Held, Master Classes on documentary films at
the International Film Festivals & conducted workshops in various Mass Communication Institutes.
Attended workshop and presented paper on the use of media for health communication, Bologna, Italy-
organized by AIFO & Govt. of Italy.
Chandra Kumar Rai, born in 1975 is a self-taught Bhutanese filmmaker, a social worker and an
entrepreneur who believes “passion begins in dreams and in dreams begins responsibility”. “I
believe one should have vocations that capture life's many dimensions,” he says and that's
what he intends to do – telling stories that have never been explored through the powerful
visual medium of films in Bhutan. He has made two shorts films, two documentaries,
numerous public service announcements on social issues and a successful feature film Gawa-
the other side of the moon, based on true story about the ill effects of social practice of night
hunting in Bhutan. The film was supported by RENEW and UN agencies due to its urgent and
worthy messages, and also became the first film to be endorsed by the Ministry of Education in the country.
Ever since then, he has travelled to all the nooks and corners of the country, advocating and raising
awareness about the issue of domestic and gender based violence. He actively works as a core volunteer for
RENEW, an NGO based in Bhutan for the relief of these survivors domestic and gender based violence.
THIMPHU, his second feature film got selected in the Global Cinema corner in 15th Pune International
Film Festival and received wide critical acclaim in Bhutan. The film was released recently Nationwide and
has become successful as his first feature film GAWA.Chand wants to do “meaningful creativity that
transcends barriers”.
